The Nice Côte d'Azur Métropole houses a legacy inherited from the old holiday destinations of the first upper-class families who came to the sea on holiday. From that era, the region has preserved some magnificent villas, some of which are classified as Historic Monuments and open to visitors. Here, the gardens are also spectacular, with their Mediterranean and exotic species. During your stay in Nice and its metropolitan area, be sure to visit:

• the Villa Grecque Kérylos, a crazy original reconstruction of  an Ancient Greek house in Beaulieu-sur-Mer, the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild, a jewel of the Belle Epoque
the Villa Ephrussi de Rotschild, a jewel of the Belle Epoque, inspired by the Italian Renaissance with its 9 thematic gardens in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat (see photo below)
the Villa Renoir, final home of the painter Pierre-Auguste Renoir,  within an estate planted with olive and citrus trees in Cagnes-sur-Mer.
• the Jardin exotique d'Eze, laid out on the old mediaeval fortress, 429 metres above the sea. It offers one of the most exceptional panoramas of the Côte d'Azur.
• the Parc Floral Phoenix, a real verdant setting at the entrance to Nice with its 7 hectares of discoveries and its giant tropical greenhouse, one of Europe's largest.
• the Jardin du Monastère de Cimiez and its magnificent rose-garden, much photographed for weddings as well as the Parc des Arènes de Cimiez, planted with age-old-olive trees and where traditional Nice festivities and Sunday familiy walks happen.

Travel in time... by visiting the charming
perched villages of the coast and hinterland
  of Nice!

The perched villages of the Métropole Nice Côte d'Azur combine the allure of mediaeval architecture with breath‑taking views of the Côte d'Azur and the mountains. Lose yourself in the little streets of these authentic villages and don't miss:

Vence - Perched on the Balcons d'Azur and just above the sea, Vence, leaning on the Baous (flat-topped cliffs), is an essential tourist site
Gilette. Dominated by the ruins of its old castle, Gilette has retained the charm of old stones and village life.
Cagnes-sur-Mer. The town owes its charm particularly to its mediaeval village of Haut-de-Cagnes whose château-musée Grimaldi elegantly looks down on the town (photo below).
Tourrette-Levens. With the tower of its ancient castle, its many free museums and magnificent panoramic views, this village will certainly charm you.
Falicon. Behind its walls, still entered by fortified gates, small, narrow winding streets and little paved squares, this village will surely charm you.
Eze-Village, Perched on a rocky promontory of the Moyenne Corniche, the mediaeval village is a major tourist site with its shops, its craft workers, its hotels, its Michelin-starred restaurants as well as its perfume factories.
Carros-Village. At a height of 400 metres, listed among the picturesque sites of the Alpes-Maritimes department, the village is laid out around its 12th century castle and has retained all its traditional mediaeval architecture
